Responsibilities
The position for our Madagascar and Belize Marine Expeditions involves providing health care to all staff and volunteers as well as emergency medical treatment and overseeing CASEVAC if the need arises. The role also requires maintenance of medical supplies and enforcement of on-site health and safety measures. There may also be the requirement to supervise medical students on elective.
In addition, in Madagascar, Blue Ventures now runs a weekly sexual and reproductive health clinic in three villages. In addition to running 3 clinics, Blue Ventures is working to raise awareness of some of the important family planning and sexual health issues facing the community. The work is being supported by Marie Stopes Madagascar who, from their base in Toliara, provide logistical support and a regular supply of contraceptives.
Requirements
To qualify for the discount the volunteer must be a qualified doctor, nurse or paramedic. A & E experience, a knowledge of dive related illness and a dive qualification is desirable but not essential. Keeping accurate records is also essential and reports are submitted frequently to the home base.
Package
A 6 week expedition, including food, accommodation, transfers to our field site (when travelling on our expedition dates), daily dives and dive training to PADI Advanced Open Water level is offered at £950. Extended stays of 12 weeks are offered at £1500 and 18 weeks at £2000. This opportunity offers experience in expedition medicine in a tropical environment and the practical challenges of delivering long term development programmes in a remote location in a developing country.
